Cebu City execs act on rash of robberies

CEBU CITY – The rash of robberies here has alarmed Mayor Alvin Garcia, prompting him to call for a command conference with police chief Ronald Roderos and his precinct commanders yesterday.

Apparently disappointed by the performance of the police in failing to stop the robberies, Garcia said he may have to give an ultimatum to the police to stop these crimes or else face sanctions.

While he did not say what these sanctions may be, it is possible he may freeze the P1,000 monthly allowance the city is giving each policeman.

The other day, while all eyes were focused on mass actions calling for the ouster of President Estrada, robbers found another opportunity to strike.

Two unidentified gunmen and an accomplice acting as a lookout robbed the G.P. Dental Supply in Urgello, owned by Iranian national Ismael Garshasbi and his Filipino wife, Pamela.

Before the heist, the robbers pretended to be customers and bought dental care items.

Last Monday, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force said it was stepping into the picture. Freeman News Service
