New boxing promoter wants to make an immediate impact
CEBU, Philippines — Driven by sheer passion, well known Cebuano impresario Dr. Winley de la Fuente of OX KBDF Gaming wants to take boxing to a higher level right in their maiden voyage in Cebu sport scene.
On Tuesday, December 10, at the Axis Entertainment and Sports Bar of the posh Nustar Resort and Casino, De la Fuente formally launched their ground-breaking promotion billed as “Binukbukay sa Sugbo”, a surefire blockbuster World Boxing Organization (WBO) triple championship card set two months from now.
“My passion fuels me into boxing promotion. And since this is our first event, we want to make an immediate impact. I assure everyone that this is going to be an exciting, highly entertaining show,” said De la Fuente. “What make this even more special is the fact that it marks a historic milestone for our community as it will be the very first time that such a grand-scale boxing event is hosted in this esteemed location.”
De la Fuente assured that the fans can look forward to an unforgettable night filled with thrilling matches, showcasing the talents of some of the most skilled fighters from the international arena.
“In bringing this event to life, we aim not only to celebrate the sport but also to foster a sense of unity and pride among boxing enthusiasts and the local community alike,” De la Fuente furthered. “Together, let us make history and elevate the boxing scene in our region.”
De la Fuente was joined by WBO Vice President for Asia Pacific Leon Panoncillo and Nustar Senior Vice President for Gaming and IR Operation Trevor Hammond.
“WBO is honored to be part of this highly anticipated triple-header championship card showcasing elite participants from Korea, China, Japan and Philippines. This is surely a unique way in opening doors to other boxing talents in the Orient to be displayed here in the Philippines,” said Panoncillo.
In the main event of slam-bang extravaganza slated on February 8 at the Nustar Convention Center, Jong Seon Kang (20-1, 11KOs) of South Korea will put his WBO Global featherweight throne on the line against Japanese challenger Ryuto Owan (13-1, 8KOs).
On the other hand, the hard-punching Chinese brawler Yeerjialahasi Laayibieke (10-2, 7KOs) from Beijing will defend his WBO Oriental super featherweight belt against Rodex “The Tank” Piala (10-1, 1KO) of ARQ Stable.
In the other featured match, former two-time WBO regional champion Genesis Servania (35-4, 16KOs) will trade blows with Aketelieti Yelejian (9-4-1, 2KOs) of Shenzhen, China for the vacant WBO Oriental lightweight title.
“I hope the Cebuanos will help and support us in this undertaking because its outcome will be the barometer for our future endeavor,” said De la Fuente.
