Unexpected reunion: Rivermaya's concert locked in for next month
MANILA, Philippines — Original Pilipino Music (OPM) iconic band Rivermaya is set for their reunion concert on February 17.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, bassist Nathan Azarcon admitted that he didn't expect that the band will reunite.
"For me, parang imposible siya. Hindi ko talaga in-expect na mangyayari 'to," Nathan said.
"The opportunity to do another first is a very strong factor for me to decide," Rico Blanco said.
"Also, we're the first Filipino artist na ipo-produce ng Live Nation. So, that's big. For me, I've always been open and it was just a matter of 'is there anyone who can bring everyone together?'" Rico added.
Nathan also shared his observations during their band rehearsals
"'Yung ibang bands, 'di ba, 'pag nag-reunion sila, 20 years, 30 years, iba na 'yung tuning nila. Mababa na," he said.
"Ito hindi eh, mas tumaas pa. Mga siraulo 'tong mga to. Certain songs, mas tumaas pa!" he added.
Concert producer Live Nation Philippines announced last November that oRivermaya original members Bamboo Manalac, Mark Escueta, Nathan Azarcon and Rico Blanco will finally reunite this Febrruary on SMDC Festival Grounds.
Bamboo, Nathan, Mark and Rico, together with Perf de Castro, were the original members of Rivermaya who rose to fame in 1994.
Perf left the band in 1995 after their first album. Bamboo followed suit in 1998 when they were touring US and Canada.
Rico took charge and continued making hit songs with the band until 2007.
Rivermaya remains active, with Nathan's return and Mark staying on board.
Ticket prices ranges from P14,750 to P2,550.
