MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning R&B singer Ne-Yo is adding a second show for when he comes back to the Philippines in January next year to perform his greatest and latest hits, an announcement that was received with some backlash.
Due to popular demand, promoter Wilbros Live announced that an additional show has been added on January 23, the date of the original concert, at 6:00 p.m.
Tickets for the initial concert time at 8:00 p.m. have already sold out, and instead will be moved to 9:00 p.m. Tickets for the new timeslot went on sale on October 23 at 10:00 a.m.
Both shows are in Araneta Coliseum, where Ne-Yo performed for his first Manila visit way back in 2008.
While several fans welcomed the addition of another show, some pointed out it was unfair that those who had already bought tickets were pushed to a later time and would be secondary in seeing Ne-Yo.
On Wilbros Live's Facebook post announcing the concert addition, some Facebook users commented the likes of "This is wrong!! Nakakabastos to ah" and suggested those who had already purchased tickets should be given the option to switch times.
Some indivuals were concerned how the foot traffic and logistics in between sets would be handled, while others pointed Ne-Yo himself might tire himself out with back-to-back shows so it would be wiser to have it on a later date instead.
Comparisons were drawn to a Westlife concert wherein an added show was placed the day before the original date, meaning those who had already bought tickets would be watching at a later time.
Philstar.com has reached out to Wilbros Live for comments on the new concert schedule, but Wilbros Live has yet to respond.
Ne-Yo is best known for his hits "So Sick," "Miss Independent," "Closer," "Because of You," "Go On Girl," "Mad," "Sexy Love," "Beautiful Monster," "One in a Million," and "Let Me Love You."
His last visit to the Philippines was for 2015's "Concert of Dreams" in City of Dreams, alongside former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, to officially open the hotel-resort and casino complex.
