Side A to hold physical back-to-back concert with original, current members
MANILA, Philippines — After two online concert reunions the past years, Side A will physically reunite on the stage of the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City on September 24 at 8 p.m.
The show will be a back-to-back concert with founding and current members together with special guest Clara Benin.
For over 35 years, the band has been an icon in the country's OPM scene as the ones behind hit ballads “Forevermore,” “Hold on,” “Eva Marie,” “So Many Questions,” and “Di Pa Huli.” Now, they will take their fans back when they first fell in love with OPM in their concert “Then and Now: Redux 360 Side A Experience.”
Side A was founded in 1985 and boasts a lineup of musicians who have been with the group since its humble beginnings at the Hyatt-Calesa Bar.
The original roster includes brothers Rodel Gonzalez (lead vocals) and Naldy Gonzalez (keyboards and vocals), Mar Dizon (drums), Pido Lalimarmo (guitars and vocals), Joey Benin (bass) and Kelly Badon (lead guitars). Joey Generoso joined a year later as vocalist and left in 2015 to pursue a solo career. Since hitting stardom in the 1990s, the hitmakers bagged two Awit Awards and a triple platinum album.
“It’s not really pre-planned to continue Side A as long as we could. We just love what we’re doing, we continue doing it. And up to now, we’re so fortunate that people still respond to the music,” Naldy said in the press conference.
“To do what you love to do at that moment was more than enough. Bonus na lang until now na appreciated pa rin ang Side A,” Rodel added.
Today, the band is composed of newer musicians alongside founding member Naldy. Among the new generation members are Ned Esguerra (bass guitar), Yubs Esperat (lead vocals) and Lee Von Cailao (lead guitar).
