MANILA, Philippines — Britney Spears is set to release new music for the first time since 2016 and the end of her 13-year conservatorship last year, and she will have the help of British pop-rock legend Sir Elton John.
Spears and John are making a brand new recording of the latter's 1972 hit single "Tiny Dancer," which will be called "Hold Me Closer," the lyrics that precede the title in the original song written by John's longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin.
John posted on his Instagram account an image featuring the song title and two emojis, a rose and a rocket, meant to depict the two singers — Spears often uses the rose emoji in her social media posts, while the rocket is a reference to another of John's hits, "Rocket Man."
Reports obtained by Variety say Spears met with John last July to record the song, overseen by Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt.
John is considered one of the best music entertainers of all time with hits like "Your Song," "Crocodile Rock," "Bennie and the Jets," "Candle in the Wind," and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."

In 2021 alone, after over 50 years in the music business, John collaborated with several artists for "The Lockdown Sessions" such as Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Puth, and Rina Sawayama.
Spears has often been dubbed the "Princess of Pop" and is best known for her songs "Baby One More Time," "Oops! I Did It Again," "Toxic," "Womanizer," "If U Seek Amy," "Everytime," "Sometimes," "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," "Piece of Me," and "Hold It Against Me."
Her last album was 2016's "Glory" which features the singles "Made Me" and "Slumber Party." It was re-issued in 2020 and made singles out of "Mood Ring," "Swimming in the Stars," and "Matches" with the Backstreet Boys.
In November 2021, a Los Angeles judge ruled for the end of the years-long conservatorship which had Spears' father taking control of her finances, assets, and other ventures. It was started by calls by fans with the hashtag #FreeBritney.
After the end of her conservatorship, Spears has been more expressive in her choices. She tied the knot with boyfriend Sam Asghari in a secret wedding in June.
