PUERTO GALERA, Philippines- To be connected to her roots, that’s what soul artist Low Leaf would like to achieve.

The pure-blooded Pinay who grew up in Los Angeles can’t help but reconnect to her homeland, Philippines. Raised by her Filipino parents and conscious of the Filipino culture, Low Leaf grew up hearin about Philippines that her parents grew up in.

“I don’t know why, it just happens,” Low Leaf replied when asked about the songs she wrote for the Philippines, in an interview Saturday night, March 1. “I get inspired, I just feel so connected.

“Becaus II grew up in Los Angeles and I was kind of detached from the Filipino culture. I mean in my family I felt it, but like in society it was very like American.

“So I feel like naturally, I want to reconnect with my roots and find out what it feels to be Filipino. Like reading their history, listening to their music, and just understanding where I’m from.”

Aside from learning more about the Philippines, Low Leaf also wants to collaborate with more Filipino artists. She was able to do this  last year when she contributed for the Venus Flytrap Collective.

“It was like a collection of a  bunch of musicians,” she said describing the album. “But I want to work with so many Filipino artists while I’m here. I’m here for like two months.”

In her two-month stay here in the Philippines, Low Leaf hopes to compose more songs and get to know more about the Philippines.
