30 trafficked Pinoys back from Myanmar
MANILA, Philippines — Thirty trafficked overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were rescued in Myanmar arrived yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Most of the victims worked at a scam hub, where traffickers reportedly punished them by making them stand under the sun for hours if they did not reach the quota.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said 176 more Filipino victims of human trafficking will arrive today.
Financial aid worth P50,000 from the Department of Migrant Workers and P10,000 from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration have been given to each of the 30 victims.
The victims were reportedly recruited through WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram as customer sales representatives in Myanmar.
Migrant Workers Undersecretary Bernard Olalia said scam hubs are being probed.
