MANILA, Philippines — Social media users went abuzz after Piolo Pascual released the trailer of his upcoming horror movie “Mallari.”

“This 2023, let’s immerse into a terrifying story that spans centuries,” Piolo captioned his post on Instagram.

Actress Jolina Magdangal commented, “Gusto ko nito!!!!!”

Instagram user @lexyroof asked if the movie has a worldwide release.

"Wow I want to watch this movie. Is there a chance of worldwide release?" the Instagram user said.

"Ay galing nman at talagang ang ganda trailer pa lang nkakatakot na sobrang excited na kmi sa horror movie mo Piolo makikilala ba kita dito? Good luck and God bless Piolo!" @andreacarios said.

Piolo played as Fr. Juan Severino Mallari, the Philippines’ first-ever documented serial killer, in his debut horror film.

“Mallari” is a partly fictional, partly true-to-life account inspired by the true story of Fr. Juan Severino Mallari, a parish priest in the 1800s who killed 57 people before being caught, thereby becoming the first and only recorded Filipino serial killer ever, antedating Jack The Ripper by more than 60 years.

The film also stars JC Santos, Janella Salvador, Elisse Joson, and Gloria Diaz with the special participation of Mylene Dizon.

Shot in various historic locations in the Philippines including in a village built purposely for the movie, almost four years in the planning, with three timelines that combine audiences’ love for retro horror with the immediate relatability of current terrors, “Mallari” is expected to be a masterpiece so rarely made in the Philippines, a potential classic, and a sensation once it shows this Christmas, 2023.

The film is written by Enrico Santos, directed by Derick Cabrido and produced by Mentorque Productions and line produced by Cleverminds, Inc.
