Janella Salvador, Win Metawin show 'authenticity, depth' in 'Under Parallel Skies'
MANILA, Philippines — Director Sigrid Bernardo revealed that working with Thai actor Win Metawin and Filipina actress Janella Salvador for the movie “Under Parallel Skies” was a one-of-a-kind experience.
In her interview with Philstar.com through 28 Squared Studios and Two Infinity Entertainment, Sigrid said she admired the hard work of Win and Janella.
“Working with two actors from different countries was a truly enriching experience. It allowed cultural exchange and brought a unique flavor to the film. Win and Janella brought their own perspectives, acting styles and nuances to their characters, which added depth and authenticity to the story,” Sigrid said.
“It was interesting to witness the blending of their talents and see how they complemented each other on screen,” she added.
Sigrid said she did not have second thoughts about accepting the project.
“When I was offered the opportunity to direct a movie starring Win Metawin and Janella Salvador, I was absolutely excited. Based on some of their works that I've seen, I can confidently say both actors are talented and another plus point is that they have a strong following in their respective countries. I couldn't wait to bring their characters to life in this film,” she said.
The director drew inspiration from various sources when she wrote the movie.
“It could be drawn from personal experiences, real love stories and the complexities of human relationships. Hong Kong is another character in the story. I am inspired by it's bustling streets and the other places in Hong Kong, which are serene and haven't been discovered yet,” she said.
“The message I want to impart to the audience with ‘Under Parallel Skies’ is that love knows no boundaries, whether they are cultural, geographical, or social. The film explores the power of love to transcend these barriers and bring people together. It delves into the complexities of relationships, the sacrifices we make for love, and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with the ones we love,” she added.
The film is set and was shot in Hong Kong with the backing of the Hong Kong Tourism Board through filming location advice such as Kowloon City, Peng Chau and Tai O Outlying Islands, as well as cultural references to be inserted in the storyline.
“Shooting films in various countries always offers new challenges and opportunities. In this particular project, the uniqueness lies in exploring the cultural and scenic contrasts between Hong Kong, Philippines and Thailand. It showcases the similarities and differences between the three countries, adding depth and authenticity to the story,” she said.
