LTFRB bares 10 deadliest bus firms
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) bared yesterday the names of the “Top 10” bus companies operating in Metro Manila that were involved in the most number of road accidents from 2010 to 2011.
For road mishaps resulting in deaths, the list is led by Admiral Transport followed by Nova Auto Transport, JAM Liner, Gasat Express, Joyselle Express, Philippine Corinthian Liner, Rainbow Express Inc., Alberto Carating, Alps The Bus Inc., and CEM Transit Services.
When it comes to accidents resulting in injuries, Admiral Transport tops the list, followed by Nova Auto Transport, JAM Liner, Gasat Express, Joyselle Express, Mayami Transport, Pascual Liner, Philippine Corinthian Liner, Rainbow Express Inc., and CEM Transit Services.
For accidents resulting in damage to property, Don Mariano Transit Corp. ranks first, followed by Nova Auto Transport, Gasat Express, Mayami Transport, Pascual Liner, Rainbow Express Inc., Roval Transport, A&D Liner, Jell Transport, and CEM Transit Sevices.
LTFRB board member Manuel Iway said this is the first time the agency came out with such a list and a study that identified which buses are always getting involved in road mishaps.
He said the LTFRB is now looking into using these statistics as part of plans to cancel the franchises of recidivist bus operators and owners.
“This also seeks to serve as a warning against erring operators,” Iway told The STAR, noting that the agency will release more statistical data from its Management Information Division.
Once a bus company’s franchise is cancelled, he said its buses will no longer be able to operate even if they change the company name because the LTFRB’s computerized system of recording engine numbers and other information will be able identify the units.
Iway said there is an ongoing moratorium on the issuance of franchises, which means that once a bus company loses its permits to operate, it can no longer apply for a new one.
