DTI releasing list of products for preferential procurement

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The  Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is set to release on Dec. 4 the list of Philippine products and services to be given preference in government procurement as part of the Tatak Pinoy Act.

During the Kapihan sa Manila Bay on Wednesday,  Ma.Theresa Faustino, officer-in-charge director of DTIs Bureau of Policy Research and Innovation, said the DTI would release the list during the Tatak Pinoy Summit to be held on Dec. 4.

During the summit, she said the DTI would announce all projects and activities undertaken since the signing of the Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino) Act or Republic Act 11981, last Feb. 26.

We will be launching or announcing the partial list  of products and services that will be given preference in terms of government procurement, Faustino said.

The issuance of the list of products to be given preference in government procurement forms part of the Tatak Pinoy Act to strengthen the domestic industry.

The law seeks to encourage the production of globally competitive Philippine products and services.

Faustino said the list to be released next month, would continue to be updated as the DTI obtains data.

“We cannot determine (everything) in a short period of time. It is not cast in stone. So it is a live list, active list. We will be improving on it based on what we get from data,” she said.

She said the list will include cement.

Aside from the partial list of products and services given preference, she said the DTI would also be presenting the draft of the multi-year Tatak Pinoy strategy, which will include all plans, programs and activities to  be undertaken under the Tatak Pinoy Act.

The strategy includes inputs from consultations conducted with the different industries.

“We will be presenting the framework for development, issues, constraints experienced by industries and proposed solutions,” Faustino said.
