Manila fire leaves 150 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines — At least 150 families lost their homes shortly before noon yesterday after a fire of still unknown origin razed a residential area in Sampaloc, Manila.

The blaze started at a house on Galicia street in Barangay 401 at around 11:50 a.m. and quickly reached third alarm since most of the houses were made of light materials, said Chief Inspector Crossib Cante, Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief.

The BFP declared the fire, which destroyed an estimated P100,000 worth of property, under control at around 1:30 p.m.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, Cante said.
