Businessman shot dead in Marikina

MANILA, Philippines - A businessman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in his car in Marikina City on Sunday night.

Godofredo Espiritu, 49, died at the scene from multiple gunshots to the body.

Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District, said they have yet to determine the motive for the killing of Espiritu, who was a shoe supplier.

Reports said that Espiritu was previously charged with acts of lasciviousness by his housemaid. The case was settled out of court.

In September last year, police said unidentified gunmen strafed Espiritu’s house along Catherine street in Barangay Malanday.

“These are the two leads our investigators are looking into,” Senior Superintendent Lorenzo Holanday, Marikina police chief, said.

Espiritu was behind the wheel of his Honda Accord (TNM-763) along Nangka street when the assailants on a motorcycle fired at him at around 9:30 p.m.

The suspects fled after the attack.

Responding policemen said they recovered nine .45-caliber casings at the scene.
