MANILA, Philippines – Office workers, shoppers, court officials and litigants were evacuated from a building housing the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court and several businesses due to a bomb threat yesterday morning.

Personnel from the Manila Police District (MPD)  explosives and ordnance division searched the Parkview Plaza building’s seven floors after the office of the clerk of court received a call from a man who claimed a bomb was set to explode at exactly 2 p.m.

A dental clinic in the building and another person received similar calls before noon, prompting the building’s security personnel to alert the MPD.

A court employee said the called “wanted to test the resolve of the president.”

After two hours of searching, bomb squad personnel declared that the building was safe.
