Manhunt on for ‘killer cop’

MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City police has launched a manhunt for a Manila policeman for reportedly killing a mall employee in Caloocan on Wednesday.

Police Officer 1 Marlon Ace Jimenez, 25, has reportedly gone into hiding but was identified by witnesses as the one who shot John Yves Garcia in front of a house in Kabulusan 2, Barangay 20 shortly before 5 a.m.

A witness said she saw Garcia arguing with a man who later shot him in the head and shoulder. Surveillance footage showed the man fleeing with the gun. Probers had a break when another policeman identified Jimenez as his batchmate.

Senior Police Officer 4 Joel Montebon said Jimenez has a child with his former partner, who was in a relationship with Garcia.

The victim had been the woman’s childhood sweetheart, he added.
