PNP takes drug war to Ayala Alabang

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) brought its anti-drug campaign Oplan Tokhang to posh Ayala Alabang village in Muntinlupa City yesterday.

Policewomen conducted a house-to-house campaign on illegal drugs and distributed flyers to the residents, Muntinlupa police chief Senior Superintendent Marites Salvadore said.

Salvadore said the home-owners cooperated with the police.

She said officials of Ayala Alabang had agreed to open its gates for police to conduct inspections  around the subdivision for any illegal activity.

Salvadore said at least 100 houses were visited by the police officers accompanied by Barangay Ayala Alabang chairman Ruben Baes and officials of the village association.

“We received a positive response from the homeowners,” Salvadore said.

Police also handed out pamphlets informing the residents about what to do during bomb threats.

Reports said at least five houses in the subdivision, mostly rented by foreigners, were suspected to be used for illegal activities such as cybersex, e-gambling and credit card hacking.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi expressed support for the PNP’s war on drugs.

Police said 2,172 drug pushers and users in Muntinlupa have surrendered to authorities since July.

Two shabu laboratories were discovered in Ayala Alabang in early 2016, police said.

Earlier, the PNP implemented Oplan Tokhang in Magallanes and Forbes Park villages in Makati City.

The PNP’s information campaign in gated subdivisions is part of the government’s continuing drug war.
