MANILA, Philippines – Operatives of the police Special Action Force (SAF), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) raided anew the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum security compound in Muntinlupa yesterday.
The raid, which started at around 7 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m., resulted in the seizure of shabu, P1.2 million in cash, mobile phones, electronic gadgets, bladed weapons and other contraband.
BuCor officer-in-charge Rolando Asuncion said the seized mobile phones were turned over to the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to determine the inmates’ contacts, who sneak illegal drugs into the national penitentiary.
Reports said the SAF commandos were backed up by an armored personnel carrier when they rounded up the inmates prior to the raid.
On Sunday, SAF troopers seized over P1 million in cash and drugs during a raid on Building 14 where high- value inmates are serving time.
The contraband was allegedly recovered from the cell of convicted drug lord Peter Co.
