Woman shot dead inside jeepney in Makati, another wounded

MANILA, Philippines — A 26-year old woman was shot dead inside a passenger jeepney early Thursday at the corner of N. Garcia St. (formerly Reposo) and J.P. Rizal St. in Makati City.
 
According to Makati police, victim Lauren Cristel Rosales, a franchising officer at a pizza restaurant and a resident of Sta. Ana, Manila, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot.
 
Police said Rosales was aboard a jeepney (NVC-706) going towards Del Pan in Manila from Guadalupe in Makati at about 7:10 a.m. when she was shot by a still unidentified man.
 
Based on statements by witnesses, the gunman was described as about 5 feet in height, of fair complexion, wearing a gray polo shirt, a white ball cap and khaki shorts. 
 
Police said another passenger, Angelica Suazo, 19, of Barangay Tejeros, Makati City, was injured in the left thigh after being hit by a stray bullet. She was rushed to the Ospital ng Makati for emergency treatment.
 
Police said a Viper Super .38 pistol, which probers said could have been used in the shooting, was later recovered inside a parked tricycle along Pililia St. corner Concepcion St. in Barangay Valenzuela.  Also recovered in the tricycle were the shooter’s clothes and cap.
 
The recovered pistol which has three bullets in its magazine and a spent shell stuck in the chamber was sent by the Makati police to the Southern Police District Crime Laboratory for examination along with the two spent shells recovered in the jeepney.
 
Meanwhile, two suspected drug addicts were shot in Barangay Rizal, also in Makati, on Thursday afternoon.
 
Police identified the victims as Rodel Morga, 39, and Roderick Cruz, both residents of Barangay Rizal.
 
Investigation showed that the victims were shot by a lone gunman at about 2 p.m. along Magnolia St. in Barangay Rizal. The gunman, armed with a gun of unknown caliber, then fled the scene after the shooting.
 
Police said Morga died on the spot while Cruz was rushed to the nearby Ospital ng Makati.
