MANILA, Philippines – Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales grew richer by P1.466 million in 2015, according to her latest statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
Morales’ net worth increased from P50.639 million in 2014 to P52.106 million last year.
Morales said her cash investments include her retirement benefits as a former magistrate of the Supreme Court and her provident fund.
Morales declared the real properties she owns in Muntinlupa at P19.639 million; a car worth P390,000; a van valued at P132,850; and jewelry, books, furniture, antique, and silverware amounting to P2.9 million.
The ombudsman had no liabilities in her 2015 SALN.
Morales declared that she has four relatives working in government, including her sister-in-law Court of Appeals Associate Justice Agnes Carpio.
She grew wealthier by P11.356 million in the last five years.
President Aquino appointed Morales as ombudsman in July 2011.
With a fixed term of seven years, Morales is expected to finish her term as the country’s chief graft buster in July 2018.
