Rob suspect shoots self in QC

MANILA, Philippines - A robbery suspect died after he reportedly shot himself with a gun he grabbed from a police officer in Quezon City on Wednesday morning.

Joey Reyes, 29, died from a gunshot to his left thigh, police said.

Police pursued Reyes after he allegedly snatched Nemia Barnedo’s mobile phone while in a passenger jeepney along Aurora Boulevard at around 9 a.m.

A tricycle driver who witnessed the incident led the police to Matahimik street where the suspect lives.

Through a closed-circuit television footage, Barnedo identified Reyes as the one who took her mobile phone.

Reyes ran away but Police Officer 1 Arnel Morales gave chase and cornered the suspect in Barangay Malaya.

Instead of yielding, Reyes reportedly grabbed Morales’ service firearm and shot himself.

The suspect was taken to the V. Luna Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police failed to recover from Reyes the stolen mobile phone worth P15,000.
