MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old man who earned a living by picking spoiled fish was shot dead at the Malabon fish port early yesterday morning.

Guillermo Ynopia Jr., of Sanciangco street, Barangay Catmon, was on his way out of the port carrying a bag of milkfish when armed men arrived and shot him repeatedly at around 3:30 a.m., according to Senior Police Officer 2 Jerry de la Torre.

Ynopia died at the scene.

The assailants fled after the killing.

Reports said that Ynopia was a thief victimizing fish vendors at the port, city police chief Senior Superintendent John Chua said.
