Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Over 2,000 traffic violations have been recorded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) since the no-contact apprehension policy was implemented on April 15.

According to the MMDA, 300 motorists were caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras committing traffic violations along EDSA and other major roads in the metropolis.

The MMDA caught on CCTVs 314 erring motorists on April 16. The largest number – 447 – was caught last Tuesday.

Ronnie Rivera, head of the MMDA’s no-contact apprehension offfice, said a majority of the violations involve bus drivers who pick up and drop off passengers at non-designated zones.

Rivera said motorists were caught blocking pedestrian lanes and intersections.

The erring motorists will be sent notices informing them of their violations and the amount of fines to be paid.

The MMDA said motorists who would be receiving summons have 15 days to contest their apprehension.

The no-contact apprehension scheme is enforced along EDSA, C5 Road and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
