Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Former police officer Abner Afuang was injured following a scuffle with an official of the National Press Club (NPC) in Manila yesterday afternoon.

Afuang, who is running for councilor in the city’s 5th district, was taken to the Mother and Child Hospital in Binondo.

He had to undergo a CT scan to determine the extent of his head injury, police said.

NPC vice president Benny Antiporda sought treatment at the Philippine General Hospital after the brawl.

Witnesses said Afuang was with journalist Sammy Gabot in a restaurant in the NPC compound in Intramuros when Antiporda arrived.

An argument ensued between Afuang and Antiporda.

Antiporda claimed that Afuang hit him first with a steel rod.

Antiporda managed to grab the steel rod during the commotion and hit Afuang on the head.

The two swapped charges of physical injuries.
