Bikers to ‘take over’ Roxas Boulevard Sunday

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Cyclists and pedestrians will “take over” a portion of EDSA extension and a lane of Roxas Boulevard tomorrow for an event organized by the Share the Road Movement.

The “road sharing” exercise will start at 6:30 a.m. at the corner of EDSA extension and Sunrise Drive near the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

The event is expected to end by 12 noon.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to take alternate routes as the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard will be closed during the exercise.

“Motorists coming from Manila or Intramuros can use Osmeña Highway or Quirino if they are going south,” MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos said. The MMDA will deploy around 60 traffic enforcers in the area.

Antonio Oposa, one of the organizers of the event, said about 3,000 people are expected to join the exercise.
