Maid held for P2.5-M theft

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A businesswoman had her domestic helper arrested for allegedly stealing P2.5 million in cash and jewelry in Manila Wednesday night.

Rosalie Mercado claimed she received a call on Tuesday afternoon and the caller said her employer, Merriam Cai, 39, was in an accident and needed money, said Superintendent Ronald Andres, Manila Police District Station 11 commander.

The caller allegedly told Mercado to get the contents of the vault in the master’s bedroom of her employer’s condominium unit in Binondo and give to him at a fastfood restaurant in Sta. Cruz.

Mercado, however, failed to give the exact location where she claimed she delivered the cash and jewelry, Andres said.
