NAIA employee cited for honesty

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A building attendant at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport received a citation yesterday for returning P96,000 and personal items left by a passenger in December last year.

Jennilyn Cruz, who has been working as a cleaning attendant at the airport for seven years, said it was the first time she received an award for honesty.

She said she had returned documents and gadgets before but never money.

“I was tidying up the areas assigned to me when a passenger called my attention to a bag that had been left behind. I asked for assistance from the airport police, who opened the bag at the lost and found section. My heart raced when I saw the cash,” Cruz said.

She said they were able to track down the bag’s owner, adding that the money was intended to pay for the salaries of a firm’s employees in Davao.
