P3.5-M substandard LED lights seized

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Police District (MPD) seized P3.5 million worth of LED lights and electric bulbs from two warehouses in Manila yesterday morning.

The MPD team, led by Senior Inspector Rosalino Ibay, found hundreds of boxes containing electrical products that did not pass government safety standards at the warehouses.

They were armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 170 Judge Zaldy Docena.

Ibay said the warrant was addressed to Solomon Dy, “alias Li Hang Xing,” and Rosa Wong, who owned the merchandise.

The substandard products were reportedly distributed to hardware stores in Manila and other regions.

“The substandard products usually cause fires,”  Ibay told The STAR.

Dy and Wong will be charged with violating the consumers’ protection law.
