Marikina’s tax take exceeds target
MANILA, Philippines - Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman expressed his gratitude yesterday to the residents who dutifully paid their taxes for 2015.
De Guzman issued his statement after business and real property tax records showed that actual tax collection last year surpassed its target collection.
According to the city treasurer’s office, Marikina generated a business tax income of P539.2 million from Jan. 2 to Dec. 31, 2015 that is 0.8 percent higher than the P535-million collection target.
On the other hand, the real property tax income reached P390.8 million, which is six percent higher than the P367.8-million intended target.
“2015 was a good and productive year for us, and so we are extending our gratitude to every Marikeño who dutifully paid their tax obligations. These taxes are very vital in the accomplishment of our projects,” De Guzman said.
The tax collection funded scholars under the city government’s college education assistance program and the recipients of financial and medical assistance, he said.
