MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan has granted former Philippine National Police (PNP) comptroller Eliseo dela Paz an eight-hour furlough that would allow him to attend his daughter’s wedding next week.
Magistrates of the anti-graft court’s Fourth Division approved Dela Paz’s request to leave the PNP Custodial Center at Camp Crame from P2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 5.
Dela Paz’s daughter, Hannah Mae, will be wed at the Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati City. The reception will be at the same venue.
The Sandiganbayan ordered the PNP Custodial Center to escort Dela Paz to the event and prevent his escape. All expenses will be charged to Dela Paz.
Dela Paz was one of the police generals caught carrying 105,000 euros at an airport in Russia in 2010 in violation of laws that limit the carrying of cash when travelling by air.
He was indicted for violating banking laws over the incident and later charged for malversation for his alleged involvement in the anomalous repair and maintenance of V-150 armored vehicles worth P385.48 million in 2007.
