P4 M lost in Caloocan fire

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A fire broke out at a warehouse in Caloocan City Wednesday night, destroying P4 million worth of property.

Residents told firefighters they heard an explosion at the warehouse along A. Mabini street in Maypajo at around 11:22 p.m.

The warehouse was later engulfed in black smoke as the fire reached third alarm. The fire was put under control two hours later.

Superintendent Antonio Razal, of the Caloocan Bureau of Fire Protection, said they had to use chemical foam to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.

A security guard said the warehouse was filled with paint thinner but he does not know what caused the fire.

Two volunteer firefighters, Ryan Gadi and Esman Castillo, were injured when they fell from the upper portion of the warehouse.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
