INC calls for collective effort vs poverty

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Iglesia ni Cristo called for a collective effort to fight poverty as the INC distributed food packs and clothing to poor residents of Barangay Maharlika in Taguig City on Monday.

“Regardless of political and religious affiliations, we should all work together to fight poverty,” INC general auditor Glicerio Santos said.

Santos said the activity was part of the church’s outreach program dubbed, “Lingap Pamamahayag,” aimed at providing assistance to the underprivileged.

He said the church, under the leadership of INC executive minister Eduardo Manalo, has intensified its anti-poverty and socio-civic projects through the Felix Manalo Foundation.

Santos cited a recent Social Weather Stations survey, which showed that 50 percent of Filipino families consider themselves as poor.

“It is time to set aside our differences and do what has to be done to help those in need,” he said.

The INC distributed 1,200 food packs to inmates of the Antipolo City jail on Sunday.
