SC asked to junk plea on same-sex marriage

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Office of the Solicitor General has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to reject a petition seeking to allow same-sex marriage in the country.

Solicitor General Florin Hilbay disclosed this yesterday after his interview with the Judicial and Bar Council for his nomination to the SC post to be vacated by Associate Justice Martin Villarama Jr., who will retire next week.

Hilbay believes there was no merit in the petition filed by lawyer Jesus Nicardo Falcis III in May last year seeking to declare as unconstitutional provisions of the Family Code, which laid down the legal framework for the ban on same-sex marriage.
