Detainee kills self in Manila jail
MANILA, Philippines – Another inmate has reportedly committed suicide in the Manila City Jail yesterday morning.
Rolando Reformado, who was serving time for parricide, was found seated in a “lotus position” on the upper bunk, with a cord tied to the ceiling looped around his neck, at around 7 a.m., Police Officer 3 Alonzo Layugan said.
His cell mate, Michael dela Cruz, said Reformado’s mouth was covered by a shirt.
Reformado is the second inmate to commit suicide at the jail in less than a month.
On Dec. 10, 2015, drug convict Gregorio Trinidad allegedly grabbed a live wire hanging in his cell and held on. He was declared dead on arrival at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
