Manhunt on for NBP escapee
MANILA, Philippines – Prison officials have dispatched a tracker team to recapture a convicted murderer who bolted the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City last week.
NBP Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf said it was the second time that Reynaldo Fuentes Avergonzago, 39, escaped from detention.
The first was from the Bohol provincial jail when he was on trial for murder. He was later recaptured in the hinterlands of San Miguel town in Bohol.
“Per review of his record Avergonzago was an artist,” he said.
Avergonzago, a farmer and native of Bohol, was admitted to the NBP in 2009 after he was convicted for murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Schwarzkopf said the convict has no known address in Manila and does not belong to any of the 13 gangs in the NBP.
The inmate was detained at Dorm 12-B of the maximum security compound.
Prison officials were conducting investigation following the discovery of a rake with a rope, believed to have been used by Avergonzago to escape.
Reports said the inmate tied a rope around the rake and used the device to scale the prison wall.
