DOH consultant loses P.2 M to maid

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A consultant of the Department of Health told police his house helper allegedly stole P210,000 worth of jewelry from his home in Barangay Central, Quezon City on Wednesday.

Fernando Macabuag, 63, had Chantelle Muji, 34, arrested for qualified theft. Muji had been working for Macabuag for two months.

Police Officer 3 Edward Rimando said Muji was not around when Macabuag arrived at his house at around 6 p.m. on Dec. 23 and discovered that his family’s jewelry was missing.

Muji claimed she was duped by con men who told her Macabuag’s wife figured in an accident, needed money immediately and must have the jewelry in the cabinet. The con men told her to give the jewelry to them at a store in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The jewelry has not been recovered as of press time.
