MANILA, Philippines - A 63-year-old housewife was killed in an ambush staged by two men on a motorcycle in San Juan City yesterday morning.

Susan Tan Uy died from a gunshot to the head while being rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Elmer Jamias ordered a deeper investigation of the incident to determine the motive for the attack.

Uy and a friend left her house on Mariposa street in Quezon City to buy flowers in San Juan, EPD information officer Police Officer 2 Catherine Capinpin said.

While Uy was maneuvering her Toyota RAV4 (PHQ-252) at the corner of Wilson street and Ortigas Avenue, the two assailants followed her and the back rider pulled out a handgun and shot Uy at around 7:30 a.m. They escaped after the shooting.

Police officers who responded to the incident rushed Uy to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

EPD investigators recovered four spent shells at the crime scene.

Senior Superintendent Roberto Alanas, San Juan police officer-in-charge, ordered checkpoints set up along the assailants’ possible escape routes but failed to intercept them.

Alanas is coordinating with businesses in the area to determine whether surveillance cameras caught the attack.

The San Juan police is also coordinating with Uy’s family in a bid to establish the motive for the ambush.
