MANILA, Philippines – An alleged mastermind of a pyramiding scam was arrested in an entrapment operation in Caloocan City Thursday night.
Norbert Doria, 36, president of Direct Marketing Group International (DMGI), was nabbed by members of the Northern Police District Special Operations Unit led by Superintendent Edgar Cariaso in a restaurant along EDSA in Monumento at around 6:30 p.m.
Doria was caught after he received P60,000 in marked money from the complainant, Bernadette Duetiz, Cariaso said.
Duetiz said she sought police help after Doria’s multimillion-peso scheme had victimized over 20,000 people nationwide.
Cariaso said the suspect has been collecting money from investors and continuously recruiting members despite a pending case filed against her in court.
Another complainant whose identity was withheld said Doria’s office along Intan steet in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan had been closed.
Police said several complainants have signified their intention to file charges against Doria.
Charges of syndicated estafa have been filed against the suspect.
