MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan has granted former Philippine National Police (PNP) comptroller Eliseo de la Paz a two-day furlough that would allow him to undergo medical check-ups at the Makati Medical Center following his surgery earlier this month.
Fourth Division magistrates said the former police general may leave the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame on Dec. 15 and Dec. 22.
The anti-graft court earlier granted De la Paz a seven-day medical furlough that allowed him to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with inguinal hernia or bulging of the groin due to fatty tissue deposits.
De la Paz was one of the police generals who were caught carrying 105,000 euros at an airport in Russia in 2010 in violation of laws that limit the carrying of cash when travelling by air.
He was indicted for allegedly violating banking laws over the incident and later charged for malversation for his alleged involvement in the anomalous repair and maintenance of V-150 armored vehicles worth P385.48 million in 2007.
