Inmate kills cousin in Bilibid

MANILA, Philippines - An inmate at the New Bilibid Prison stabbed dead his cousin and fellow inmate at the NBP’s maximum security compound shortly before dawn yesterday.

Jonathan Braga was arrested and separated from other inmates after he killed Filicito Braga, NBP superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said.

The attack happened in Dormitory 12, where inmates who are not members of any gang are housed. Prison guards rushed the victim to the prison hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival due to several stab wounds.

Schwarzkopf said there is an ongoing operation to clear the compound of deadly weapons and contraband.

The cousins do not belong to any of the 13 gangs in the national penitentiary.
