MANILA, Philippines - Marikina City will be making history when it unveils the time capsule for its shoe industry at Kapitan Moy Plaza in Barangay Sta. Elena tomorrow.
The steel capsule contains tools and materials used in shoemaking.
It will be dug up in 25 years.
Invited to grace the event are shoemakers from the 1960s up to the present.
“We hope that through this event, we will be able to pass on a legacy to the future generations of shoemakers who will help keep Marikina’s shoe industry alive,” Mayor Del de Guzman said.
The city’s shoe festival will culminate on Dec. 5 with a grand parade, street dance and search for the festival queen at the Marikina Sports Center.
A mega shoe sale will be held until Dec. 30 in the city’s Freedom Park.
