Student dies, another hurt in Pasig mishap

MANILA, Philippines – A student died and her companion was injured when a truck hit them while they were crossing a street in Pasig City Saturday.

Sarah Rafaella Centeno was run over by the front wheels of an Isuzu Elf truck (TFF-707) and died on the spot.

Her companion, Harold Anthony Gasser, was listed in critical condition at The Medical City.

Pasig police chief Senior Superintendent Jose Hidalgo Jr. said truck driver Gregorio Torres turned himself in to the police after the accident.

Torres will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries before the city prosecutor’s office.

Reports said Centeno and Gasser were crossing C-5 Road, IPI Intersection in Barangay Ugong at past 4 p.m. on Saturday and failed to notice the approaching truck.

The front portion of the truck hit Centeno, causing her to fall to the ground.

Witnesses said the truck kept moving and the victim was pinned under its front wheels.
