MANILA, Philippines – The Australian government will fund the construction of a modern warehouse for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The DSWD said yesterday the warehouse will give the agency a better place to store its food relief supplies.
The DSWD and Australian government will launch the partnership with the groundbreaking for the new warehouse at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City on Dec. 3.
DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman and Australian Ambassador Bill Tweddell will lead the groundbreaking ceremony.
Representatives of agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other member-agencies of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council are expected to attend the ceremony.
The DPWH will lead the construction of the warehouse, which is expected to be completed in the first semester of 2016.
It will be recalled that the DSWD’s NROC had just been equipped with a modern, fully mechanized food repacking system earlier this year, donated by the United Nations World Food Programme and the United Kingdom.
