Fire hits Manila Zoo

MANILA, Philippines - No one was hurt and the animals were safe when a fire struck the Manila Zoo in Malate Tuesday night.

Chief Inspector Romeo Salvador, Malate police station deputy commander, said the fire broke out at the canteen inside the zoo’s compound at around 10 p.m. and spread at the nearby ticketing booth.

The fire lasted 30 minutes, Salvador said.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Edilberto Cruz said they have yet to establish the cause of the blaze.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expressed relief that no humans or animals were hurt in the fire. – Rey Galupo, Evelyn Macairan
