Man slain over illegal power connection racket

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An alleged member of a syndicate involved in installing illegal electricity connections for informal settlers was shot dead in Malabon City Sunday afternoon.

Danilo Zinampan, 41, a resident of Paradise Village in Barangay Tonsuya, was playing a card game at a wake at around 4:30 p.m. when a man and a woman arrived and shot him repeatedly.

He died on the spot from two gunshot wounds in the head while the assailants fled on foot, Malabon police follow-up section chief Police Officer 3 Roger Libuton said.

Zinampan’s partner told The STAR the victim was involved in setting up illegal electric connections in Paradise Village, home to thousands of informal settlers in the city.

She said the victim had been receiving death threats but would not tell what was happening. Zinampan left three children.

A source in Paradise Village said syndicates in the area are battling for control over the illegal power connection racket.
