Telcos: No order to cut service during APEC

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Telecommunications companies yesterday belied information circulating on social media that there will be service disruptions this week during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Summit.

Globe Telecom said in a statement that the firm would like to caution its customers about information spreading through social media and short messaging service regarding its services this week.

Smart Communications, which operates Smart and Sun Cellular, said it is operating normally.

Globe said services might be affected in some areas by public safety measures being undertaken for the APEC summit but only the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) can make the official announcement on this matter.

Various posts on social media, as well as text messages circulating among mobile users, have warned of signal disruptions due to APEC, but the NTC said it has not ordered any disruption of service as of noon yesterday.
