MANILA, Philippines - To showcase the durability of Marikina-made shoes, the city government will hold its annual stiletto race today.
The race, dubbed the “Tour de Takong,” is one of the major events of the Sapatos Festival and will be held at the Freedom Park at 3 p.m.
Race participants shall run approximately 1.8 kilometers in heels at least three inches high. The contestants’ feet must not be taped to their shoes, the city government said.
Winners for the male and female categories will receive cash and trophies.
There will also be awards for the Nakakatakong, the contestants with the tallest heels; Shoe-bebe, Shoe-bae and Shoe-babe for the most good-looking contestants; the first 10 finishers among police officers, soldiers and other uniformed government personnel; Shoe-nior for the oldest male and female runners; and for the male and female contestants with the most fabulous stilettos.
