UP to open Taguig campus in 2016

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) will open its new campus at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig next year.

Jose Wendell Capili, assistant vice president for public affairs, said the UP Professional Schools would offer graduate classes in business administration, economics, engineering and statistics.

The UP College of Law will also offer day and night sessions at the Taguig campus, he said.

UP president Alfredo Pascual earlier said the Professional Schools was part of the university’s thrust to attract graduate students from professionals in BGC and other nearby business districts.

“We are bringing quality professional education closer and more accessible to individuals and industry and hopefully produce a critical mass of game changers,” Pascual said.

Launched in 2014, the Professional Schools was constructed at the 4,300 square meter property donated by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to the university.

The building, to be named Henry Sy Sr. Hall, was funded by a P400-million donation by the SM Investments Corp.

Under the agreement, SM and SM Prime Holdings have committed to supervise the construction of the building and all its facilities.

The building will feature classrooms, function rooms, a multi-purpose hall, auditorium, libraries, a computer laboratory, faculty and student lounges, cafeteria, coffee shop, two basement parking floors and administration facilities.

UP had earlier opened a similar Professional Schools in Cebu, which offers business administration and information technology courses.

The BCDA also signed a memorandum of understanding with the university for the establishment of a campus at the proposed Clark Green City in Central Luzon.
