MANILA, Philippines – Sixteen overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returned from Libya yesterday, bringing to 5,524 the total number of repatriates from the strife-torn country, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
The DFA said a team from the Philippine embassy in Tripoli took the group to a longer but safer route to avoid violence in Libya.
Thirteen of the repatriates were based in Tripoli and the western region of Libya.
The embassy said more than 3,000 Filipinos are still in Libya.
Libya remains under Crisis Alert Level 4 due to the continued political and security instability throughout the country.
The Philippine embassy in Tripoli urged the remaining Filipinos in Libya to avail themselves of the government’s repatriation program.
