MANILA, Philippines - Depression had pushed a 27-year-old construction worker to hang himself on All Saints’ Day, an official said yesterday.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) spokesman Jeffrey Bilaro said Juancho Along used a shoelace to hang himself in his house in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City at around 8 p.m. on Nov. 1.
The victim’s neighbor, Emily Braga, told investigators that she repeatedly knocked on Along’s door to give him food, but the victim did not respond. She forced the door open and found the body of the victim hanging from the wooden beam with a shoelace tied around his neck.
Braga sought assistance from barangay officials, who reported the incident to the police.
She said neighbors had noticed that Along, who lived alone in his house, was sad and upset a few days before he committed suicide.
Neighbors said Along’s wife recently left him due to his vices.
